Healthy Eating

Eating is one of the most enjoyable things that life has to offer. Food can provide an opportunity to gather and share with friends and family. Mealtimes are a great chance to 'catch up' with loved ones. Food also provides the body with energy to get you through the day. A balanced diet throughout the day will help to ensure you can return from work with energy to interact with your family and community.

HealthWorks wants to support families and individuals not only at the workplace but also at home as well. We hope to help all citizens of Northwestern Ontario find a healthy balance between work and home. By providing information on Healthy Eating @ Home we hope to ensure that you have access to information for eating healthy throughout the entire day.

HealthWorks and the Northwestern Health Unit encourage you to explore the rainbow of Canada's Food Guide. By trying to eat foods from the four food groups found in Eating Well with Canada's Food Guide you are well on your way to enjoying a balanced diet. Try choosing the following food items more often:

  • Grain Products Whole Grain and enriched products
  • Vegetables and Fruit Dark green and orange vegetables and fruit
  • Milk Products Lower-fat milk and milk products
  • Meat and Alternatives Leaner meats, poultry and fish. Beans, dried peas and lentils

HealthWorks understands that life can be demanding on the pocketbook. If you are having trouble making ends meet and need help figuring out how to eat healthy on a budget please contact your local Northwestern Health Unit for more information.
